UW Medicine receives Ragan award for short film on Paralympian
UW Medicine received a Ragan 2025 Video, Visual & Virtual Award for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for a short film featuring Taylor Swanson, who moved from a knee injury to an unexpected diagnosis of cerebral palsy. After returning to athletics as a para-athlete, Swanson ran the 100‑meter, 200‑meter, and 4x100‑meter relay races at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris and earned silver and bronze medals in the 100‑ and 200‑meter events.
The video includes medical details from Clinical Professor Cindy Lin, MD, FACSM, FAAPMR, the director of The Sports Institute. Swanson is now an ambassador for The Sports Institute Exercise RX project, which Dr. Lin leads.
The video was aimed at raising awareness about cerebral palsy in adults, promoting adaptive athletics, and UW Medicine’s commitment to inclusive care for athletes and clinicians.
The Ragan awards recognize communicators, creative teams, and organizations that advance visual communication and virtual experiences.
