UW CREATE awarded $4.6M to research AI risks and opportunities for people with disabilities

A new research project on the participatory, assistive, inclusive and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology by people with disabilities has received a major grant. The Center for Research and Education on Accessible Technology and Experiences (CREATE) has been awarded $4.6M by National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR), a program of the Administration for Community Living, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Associate Professor Mark Harniss, PhD, is the co-principal investigator on this project, along with Dr. Jennifer Mankoff, the Director of CREATE and the Richard E. Ladner Professor in the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering.
