Thirty high school students participating in the University of Washington Underrepresented Students Discovering Opportunities in Careers (UDOC) program visited the Master of Prosthetics & Orthotics (MPO) program on July 15, 2026, to learn about careers in prosthetics and orthotics.
First-year MPO students facilitated hands-on activities, including taking Harris mat footprints and interpreting pressure patterns under the foot during walking, learning how lower-limb prostheses are fabricated and aligned, and trying on a body-powered upper-limb prosthesis to pick up objects.
Assistant Professor Cody McDonald, PhD, MPH, L/CPO, facilitated the event with assistance from Assistant Teaching Professor Bryan Roehr, L/CPO, and Teaching Associate Amanda Barizo, BS, CTPO.
