
Brown, Child receive $150k for study on exercise for LAM patients.
Mary Beth Brown, PT, PhD, Associate Professor, and Claire Child, MPH, DPT, Rehabilitation Science PhD student, have received a grant for $150,000 over two years from the The Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) Foundation. The LAM Foundation is a patient advocacy group is a patient advocacy group for individuals with the rare and incurable disease lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), which afflicts young women and leads to loss of lung function. The study aims to expand access to exercise programming to the LAM patient community using an evidence-based implementation framework. Community-based participatory research and design strategies will engage key stakeholders and optimize program safety, acceptability, and adoption.
Their study is titled, “Introducing ‘LAMFit’- An mHealth Program to Expand Access to the Health Benefits of Exercise for Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM)”. Lawrence Ho, MD, UW Pulmonary and Critical Care, and Anne Turner, MD, MPH, MLIS, UW School of Public Health, are also co-investigators on this study.
