Research by Dr. Heather Feldner into child-friendly mobility devices for children with disabilities is just one example of pediatric rehabilitation research.

Pediatric rehabilitation research at the University of Washington School of Medicine focuses on improving health, function, participation, and quality of life for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with disabilities, developmental conditions, injuries, and other rehabilitation needs. Researchers work across clinical, community, educational, and family settings to better understand the factors that influence development, well-being, and participation in everyday life.

Investigators examine a broad range of topics, including mobility, daily activities, behavior regulation, neurodevelopment, family experiences, healthcare delivery, assistive technology, community participation, and health equity. Through partnerships with children, families, clinicians, educators, and community organizations, researchers generate evidence that informs rehabilitation practice, programs, and policies and supports meaningful outcomes across the lifespan.
