The Long COVID Research + Care Collaborative is a multidisciplinary initiative that integrates research and clinical care to better understand and treat the ongoing symptoms that can follow COVID-19 infection. Often referred to as Long COVID, or post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), this condition can involve a wide range of persistent physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges. Our work bridges discovery and practice, using real-world clinical insights to shape research questions and applying research findings to improve patient care in real time.

We partner with healthcare providers, community partners, patient advocacy groups, and experts from other Long COVID clinics nationally to inform our approach to multidimensional care that addresses the complex physical, cognitive, and psychosocial challenges associated with Long COVID.

Based in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and drawing on expertise from Rehabilitation, Family and Internal Medicine, Neurology, Psychology, Social Work, and Public Health, our collaborative leads clinical and translational research to expand the available evidence base for rehabilitation strategies tailored to the needs of Long COVID patients.

Current and recent projects include:

  • A national platform trial to determine whether pacing is effective in reducing the symptoms of post exertional malaise (PEM) in people with Long COVID (RECOVER-ENERGIZE)
  • A pilot study exploring a telemedicine intervention designed to help people with Long COVID manage their symptoms (COPES Study)
  • An observational study examining impacts of COVID-19 as people age including studying how genetics affect how COVID-19 influences thinking and memory (ISAVRAD Study)
  • A feasibility study for a 2-arm randomized clinical trial for evaluating the effectiveness of acupuncture for pain in patients with Long COVID (PRIMe Study)
  • UW Medicine COVID Clinic Program
  • UW Medicine Clinics
