The Division of Rehabilitation Psychology and Neuropsychology specializes in assisting individuals facing the challenges of illness, injury, and disability. Our team works collaboratively with patients, their families, and healthcare providers to promote recovery, enhance well-being, and support independence.

Rehabilitation Psychology

Rehabilitation psychology focuses on how people recover and adjust after experiencing significant injury, illness, or disability. This includes helping individuals cope with physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges resulting from health events such as traumatic brain injuries, strokes, spinal cord injuries, amputations, chronic illnesses, and other medical conditions. Our specialists provide support for mental health and cognitive difficulties caused by these events, tailoring interventions to meet the specific needs of each individual.

Services We Offer

  • Psychological Assessment and Counseling
We assist patients in coping with the emotional impact of illness or injury, addressing concerns such as depression, anxiety, and stress management.
  • Behavioral Health Interventions
We offer strategies for behavior change to support rehabilitation goals, including pain management and adjusting to disability.
  • Support for Healthcare Teams
We collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care through customized psychological and behavioral recommendations.
  • Return-to-Work and Discharge Planning
We help patients and families prepare for life after hospitalization or rehabilitation, including strategies to return to work.
  • Education and Support for Families
We provide guidance for caregivers and family members to assist them in supporting their loved ones effectively.

Rehabilitation Neuropsychology

Neuropsychology studies the relationship between the brain and behavior. Rehabilitation neuropsychologists assess how brain injuries, diseases, or disorders affect cognition, emotions, and behavior. They focus on understanding brain functions and how damage to specific areas of the brain impacts mental functioning. Our specialists conduct detailed testing for patients with cognitive or neurological concerns, ensuring appropriate care for conditions like brain injuries, tumors, and strokes. Neuropsychologists may also help diagnose neurological disorders resulting from brain damage or conditions such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease.

Services We Offer

  • Neuropsychological Testing
We evaluate cognitive functions such as memory, attention, and problem-solving to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Support for Healthcare Teams
We work with multidisciplinary teams to share results of testing to ensure that treatment plans address the cognitive and emotional difficulties that may be impacting a patient.
  • Return-to-Work
Neuropsychological testing can be essential to prepare someone for returning to work, including planning with other providers to ensure a patient has the support they need to be successful.
  • Education and Support for Patients and Families
We provide feedback to patients and their families to ensure they understand their current function and can work together.

Through our collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, we help patients build a foundation for a healthier and more fulfilling life.
