
Tyler Barrett Named Finalist for Best Abstract at USASP, Honored with Early Career Investigator Award

Tyler Barrett, a second-year PhD student and research assistant, presented an abstract at the United States Association for the Study of Pain's Annual Scientific Meeting, held in Chicago from April 29th to May 2nd.
Barrett was invited to present the abstract at the USASP Psychological Factors and Interventions SIG meeting (PsyFi SIG), as he was selected as one of the finalists for the best abstract. Barrett also received the USASP Award for High Priority Early Career Investigators.
Barrett received funding support from the Department of Rehabilitation’s PhD Education Training Fund (Kartin Fund, Wang/Robinson Fund, Anderson Fund), the UW Graduate and Professional Student Senate.
Barrett’s research focused on a tool called the Future Self Questionnaire (Future-SQ), which helps people describe how they see themselves in the future. The abstract emphasized the importance of how someone views their future self can affect how they feel and respond to treatment, especially for people with chronic pain.
The abstract was co-authored by Rhonda Williams, PhD, ABPP-RP, professor, and Mark Jensen, PhD, Professor, rehabilitation psychology and neuropsychology.
