As part of Initiative 93, UW faculty hosted three orthopedic traveling fellows for a two-day visit to Seattle on Feb 22-23. During their time in Seattle, the fellows visited the UW P&O Program, The Dr Joan Sanders Lab in the UW School of Engineering, the Puget Sound VA Center for Limb Loss and Mobility (CLIMB), Orthocare Innovations and Cornerstone Prosthetics and Orthotics. During their visit, they toured the various facilities, learned about prosthetics and orthotics (P&O) research and clinical innovations occurring in Seattle, and presented their own research related to P&O.

The Initiative '93 Technical Orthopedics Travel Fellowship was founded to promote technical orthopedics with further education and training. The study trip of four to five weeks to sites of excellence around the United States for amputation surgery and rehabilitation occurs every two years between mid-February and mid-April. The travel group usually consists of two German, one Austrian and one Swiss colleague. Only specialists in orthopedics, orthopedics and trauma surgery or orthopedic technology from Austria, Switzerland and Germany who deal clinically and scientifically with technical orthopedics are eligible as applicants.
