Friday, Feb 23 is “Thank a Resident” Day. On this day, as on all others, we’d like to express our appreciation of our residents. Medical residency is a demanding time, filled with long hours, hard work, and sacrifices both inside and outside of the hospital. Thank you to each and every one of you for your commitment, empathy, and dedication to medical excellence.

To our residents: Thank you for your tireless efforts, for the sacrifices you make, and for the exceptional care you provide. Your journey is one of significance, marked by the countless lives you've improved and the bright future you embody in the field of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. We are immensely proud of you and grateful for the energy, passion, and excellence you bring to our program.

The UW Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Residency Program is home to 27 residents and 10 fellows. Our residents come from across the country, and have diverse interests and backgrounds. Still, the group has formed a tight-knit cohort. They enjoy spending time with each other exploring Seattle restaurants, concerts, and the Pacific Northwest outdoors. The celebrated Whistler Ski Trip over President's Day weekend—residency tradition—exemplifies the spirit of camaraderie and collective joy that defines our resident community. These shared experiences, set against the backdrop of a demanding training program, underscore the residents' remarkable ability to balance professional growth with personal fulfillment. Through their empathy, hard work, and perseverance, they are growing into the next generation of leaders in PM&R and are a constant source of inspiration to us all.

Our residents serve four different hospitals, Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center, Seattle Children’s, and the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, in areas of inpatient service, consult, and numerous clinics. Over the course of four years, their training includes long work hours, busy calls over nights and weekends, and unseen sacrifices in and out of the hospital. Through the highs and lows of graduate medical training, residents are indispensable members of the rehab care team.

As we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our residents and fellows, we recognize the immense contributions they make each day. Their journey is a testament to the power of dedication, the importance of community, and the transformative impact of compassionate care.
