
Svircev receives excellence in mentorship of clinicians award

Professor Jelena N. Svircev, MD, received this year’s Teresa L. Massagli, MD, Award for Excellence in Mentorship of Clinicians. The award recognizes outstanding mentorship of faculty and trainees in clinical education and practice.
Dr. Svircev is recognized for her mentorship of fellows and faculty, as well as her commitment to supporting career development in clinical practice.
“As a faculty member, I have been deeply supported by Dr. Svircev, whose mentorship has shaped my growth, strengthened my confidence, and helped me navigate the complexities of faculty life and promotion,” says Associate Professor Cherry Junn, MD.
Colleagues note that Dr. Svircev tailors mentorship to each trainee’s goals and connects mentees with opportunities that support their clinical and academic development.
“Dr. Svircev is particularly good at sponsorship, connecting her mentees with colleagues to help promote their careers. Her advice has been invaluable in helping advance my academic career,” says Assistant Professor Kate Delaney, MD.
This award was presented at the 2026 Justus F. Lehmann Symposium, May 7, 2026.
About the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine Mentoring Awards
The Mentoring Awards Program launched in 2023 to recognize excellence in mentorship in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at UW Medicine. Each year, three awards honor faculty who invest in the next generation of rehabilitation professionals and faculty:
- Kathryn M. Yorkston Award for Excellence in Student/Trainee Mentorship
- Joseph M. Czerniecki, MD, Award for Excellence in Clinician-Scientist Mentorship
- Teresa L. Massagli, MD, Award for Excellence in Mentorship of Clinicians
The awards are presented annually at the Justus F. Lehmann Symposium.
