What inspired you to specialize in sports and spine medicine?
A history of too many injuries to count as a competitive gymnast fueled my interest in sports medicine. I had both positive and negative experiences as a patient, and I have learned from all of them to help shape how I approach patient care.
Why did you choose to join UW Medicine?
I love the people I work with. I am surrounded by intelligent providers who love learning new things, discussing complex cases, and working to help patients maximize their function.
What is your favorite part of working with patients in this field?
I come from a family of educators. Everyone else in my immediate family either currently is or has been a teacher. I find that same joy by educating my patients on what is causing their pain and how we can best treat it. I like to dispel misinformation and provide accurate information in a manner they can understand.
What is one easy tip for spine/joint health you wish everyone would follow?
Sit less. Exercise should be fun. Find an activity that you enjoy so that you can do it regularly, without it feeling like a chore.
When you are not in the clinic, what do you enjoy doing?
Exploring the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest with my family.
