What inspired you to specialize in sports and spine medicine?

I enjoy working with patients of all ages to help them to stay active in the sports and activities that bring meaning to their lives. I enjoy the problem solving and diagnostic aspects of sports & spine medicine. There was also the strong influence of inspirational mentors in sports medicine during medical school and residency as well as my research interests in biomechanics and injury prevention, so sports & spine medicine was a perfect fit.

Why did you choose to join UW Medicine?

UW Medicine was an easy choice for its strong sports & spine leadership, the large faculty to have as colleagues and friends, the connection to a powerhouse university with incredible research collaborators, the PNW outdoors, and proximity to Vancouver, Canada which was important to our family.

What is your favorite part of working with patients in this field?

I enjoy helping patients of all ages figure out what is causing their pain or impairment and helping them find a way to stay active in the sports and activities that they love.

What is one easy tip for spine/joint health you wish everyone would follow?

Every step (or movement) counts!

When you are not in the clinic, what do you enjoy doing?

Horseback riding or swimming mostly!
