Heather A. Feldner, PT, PhD, PCS, associate professor in the Division of Physical Therapy, presented her research at the European Academy of Childhood Disability conference, held from June 24 to 28 in Heidelberg, Germany. The annual event brings together international experts in pediatric rehabilitation, disability studies, and assistive technology.

Dr. Feldner presented three talks focused on powered mobility and early intervention for young children with motor disabilities:

  • An interdisciplinary approach to quantifying powered mobility use in new drivers ages 1–3 years with motor disabilities. Co-authors: Bethany Sloane, Kim Ingraham, and Kat Steele.
  • Development of a standardized powered mobility intervention for young children with cerebral palsy to promote knowledge translation into clinical practice. Co-authors: Sam Logan, Lisa Kenyon, and Bethany Sloane.
  • The window of opportunity: evidence-based recommendations for clinicians providing on-time mobility for young infants and toddlers. Co-authors: Arne Compernolle, Teresa Plummer, and Alyson Hendry.

Dr. Feldner’s work highlights the importance of timely access to mobility for children with disabilities and the role of interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing clinical practice.
