Sue Spaulding is a prosthetist/orthotist and Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. After graduating from the UW P&O program in 1996, she completed her orthotic residency at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. She worked as a CPO in Portland, Oregon, and later held a 1-year orthotic lecturer position in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Following this, she earned an MS in biomechanics from the University of Oregon.

Clinical Interests

Spaulding's clinical interests include pediatric orthotic treatment and upper limb prosthetic treatment of both adults and children. She believes the best way to serve patients is to listen to them and clearly understand their needs/desires.

Teaching Interests

Spaulding’s teaching philosophy is grounded in the idea that learning is often iterative, and it needs to be student-centered and clinically relevant. Deeper learning occurs when students have the opportunity to actively engage with the content/concepts, reflect/evaluate their own understanding, and learn from mistakes. Her teaching responsibilities are primarily in the first year of the Masters of Prosthetics and Orthotics Program. She has a particular interest in the development of decision-making, psychomotor, and clinical problem-solving skills.
