Mallika Patel is a current resident in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Her passion for disability advocacy first began during her undergraduate years when she volunteered to teach music lessons to children and adults with disabilities in the Chicago area. In medical school, she became a leader in the Disability Advocacy Coalition, creating opportunities for medical students to learn more about caring for patients with disability and later presenting her work at the Aphasia Access and Physiatry conferences. During her intern year, she met with state legislators to push for state funding of a universally accessible park for all ages and abilities in her city. Throughout her career, she intends to continue to educate herself and others about disability as well as continue to advocate for her patients and the disability community.
