Lindsey M. Knowles, PhD

Dr. Knowles is an assistant professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. She is an attending psychologist in the Post-COVID Rehabilitation and Recovery Clinic at Harborview Medical Center.

Dr. Knowles earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the Columbia University. She earned a master’s degree in secondary education from Arizona State University as a member of Teach For America. She earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology at the University of Arizona. She completed a predoctoral residency in behavioral medicine at the University of Washington and a rehabilitation research fellowship at the University of Washington and VA Puget Sound sponsored by the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Knowles works with people with MS and post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC)/Long COVID. Her clinical interests include fatigue and pain management, coping with chronic health conditions and/or disability, multidisciplinary care, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral therapy. 

Research Interests

Her research focuses on optimizing behavioral health treatments for common and disabling symptoms in adults with chronic health conditions like MS and PASC. Currently, Dr. Knowles has an NIH Career Development Award to optimize a telehealth Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-based treatment for fatigue in people with MS. She is also co-leading a randomized controlled pilot trial of a group-based behavioral treatment to improve symptom management and coping in people with PASC.
