The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and Seattle Children’s Hospital offers a one- or two-year Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine Fellowship. This fellowship is accredited by the ACGME and after completion allows the graduate to sit for the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPM&R) Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine subspeciality examination. This fellowship provides the trainee with a well-rounded clinical experience in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
Seattle Children’s Hospital is a 320-bed tertiary care hospital including a 12 bed CARF accredited rehabilitation unit serving a 4 state region including Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. The fellow, with support from an attending physician, will manage the care of children on the inpatient rehabilitation unit with a focus on the patient’s medical and rehabilitation needs and as the leader of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team. The fellow will also work with one of seven attending Pediatric Rehabilitation physicians to provide outpatient care for children and adolescents with acquired and congenital disabilities and injuries including cerebral palsy, neuromuscular diseases, spina bifida, amputations, arthrogryposis, spinal cord injury, brain injury, brain tumors, and sports related injuries. The fellow will participate in many regularly scheduled interdisciplinary outpatient clinics during their training.
The fellow will participate in a scholarly project with mentoring from one of the rehabilitation medicine or research faculty at Seattle Children’s Hospital or University of Washington Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.

- Why have you chosen UW as a potential for fellowship training?
- What is your hopeful practice scenario in three to five years?
Application timeline:
All applications should be submitted through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application System). We will begin reviewing applications in July, and interviews will take place September-October. The deadline for applying is August 31.

Selection criteria
Applicants for the Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine Fellowship must be in their last year of residency or completed their residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. The Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine fellow’s salary and benefits are commensurate with the PGY-5 salary of the University of Washington. Benefits include three weeks vacation and extra days for CME activities and national presentations.
