David R Patterson, PhD

David Patterson, PhD, is the founder of Harborview's Rehabilitation Consult Service and a UW professor of Medicine and Psychology and an adjunct professor of Surgery. Dr. Patterson specializes in pain control and recovery from physical trauma, burn injuries and other forms of disabilities. He is also internationally known for his work in clinical hypnosis. Dr. Patterson earned his PhD in clinical psychology from Florida State University. He has conducted NIH funded studies on pain control since the 1980s. He has also conducted clinical research in rehabilitation psychology, and studied the use of immersive virtual reality for pain control.
