OT student receives 2 AOTF awards
Congratulations to second year MOT student Karin Johnson who was awarded The Network for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Concerns in Occupational Therapy Endowed Scholarship and Washington Occupational Therapy Association Endowed Scholarship. The American Occupational Therapy Foundation (AOTF) was established in 1965 and the scholarship program is one of its oldest. There are about 50 scholarships available to full-time students in OT and OTA programs.
Karin decided to become an occupational therapist because she loves how OTs focus holistically on client needs, factoring in each person and their environment. As the University of Washington WOTA student representative, Karin has enjoyed learning about statewide OT priorities and looks forward to continuing to be a voice for the profession once she moves into practice. She is particularly keen to maintain and expand safe spaces for LGBTQ+ clients in age-friendly planning. Karin stated, “I am so grateful for the recognition these scholarships provide of my chosen second career!”
