Susan Kapp is a prosthetist-orthotist and a teaching professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. She brings years of clinical and teaching experience to the classroom where she focuses primarily on transtibial and transfemoral prosthetics. She received prosthetic and orthotic education at Northwestern University and completed residencies in private practice and at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Clinical Interests

Ms. Kapp’s clinical interests are upper and lower limb prosthetics, including computer aided designed prosthetic sockets, microprocessor knees and ankles, myoelectric control and vacuum suspension.

Teaching Interests

Ms. Kapp teaches transtibial and transfemoral prosthetics with a special interest in collaborative learning and teaching strategies. She believes education should be filled with relevant and memorable learning moments which students can take with them into clinical practice. Students should not see learning as daunting but instead a journey where they gain skills through each course until they feel confident to move into residency. Her role is to be a teacher, a facilitator, a motivator and to support students. The ultimate goal is for students to make good clinical decisions and to deliver excellent care to their patients.

Research Interests

Ms. Kapp’s research interests relate to prosthetic socket volume and pressure as well as prosthetic component selection.
