Carolyn Baylor is a speech-language pathologist, associate professor, and Vice Chair for Academic Programs in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. Her research focuses on qualitative and quantitative research related to patient-reported outcomes, participation-focused intervention, and environmental barriers to community participation for adults with acquired communication disorders. She has a Masters of Science and PhD in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Washington.

Teaching Interests
She teaches introduction to clinical methods courses at both the undergraduate and Master’s degree levels in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. In the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, she is a co-instructor in the Perspectives in Interprofessional Education course for students in the clinical training programs from the Departments of Rehabilitation Medicine and Speech and Hearing Sciences; she also co-teaches multiple courses in the Rehabilitation Science PhD program.
Research Interests
Dr. Baylor is interested in helping adults with acquired communication disorders participate in life more fully by not only improving their communication capabilities, but by reducing environmental barriers and improving environmental accommodations. Her research focuses on learning about the experiences of these stakeholders, and then developing resources and tools to help clinical speech-language pathologists take a life participation approach to intervention. These resources include patient-reported outcomes measures as well as participation-focused intervention models. She is also interested in helping healthcare providers from other disciplines learn about communication disorders so that they can work more effectively and respectfully with their patients who have communication challenges.
