Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Fellowship

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington and the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System offer a one year Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine.

Fellows participate in inpatient care, outpatient clinics, consultations, and research related to spinal cord injury (SCI) and disorders.

The curriculum emphasizes the lifelong nature of rehabilitation, from acute injury to maintenance of function, as well as primary care needs of persons with SCI. Skills including ventilator management, electrodiagnostics studies, injections for spasticity, and management of the intrathecal pumps are included in the instruction. SCI didactics address core topics and interdisciplinary conferences are held regularly to complement the education.

Training sites include the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC), the Veteran’s Administration Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS), Harborview Medical Center (HMC), and Seattle Children’s.
