Why did you choose the PhD in Rehabilitation Science program at the UW?

Research is my passion and the PhD program best fit the training I desired. By selecting the UW, I have been able to stay close to my family, keep up clinical work and attend the best school. This is a real privilege for me.

Why did you choose interdisciplinary education?

Clinical practice and personal experiences taught me that the best gains for my patient come with the best interdisciplinary collaboration. I was thrilled to get an opportunity to be in such an interdisciplinary program and broaden my knowledge base.

What are your research interests?

My area of interest is rehabilitation in adult neurological disorders such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury. I am interested in systematic study of hand rehabilitation in neurological conditions and advances in intervention techniques.

What is your professional background?

I am an Occupational therapist and currently practicing in acute, inpatient rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility working with the adult population. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Occupational therapy and Masters in Occupational therapy from University of Mumbai, India.

What are your personal interests and activities outside of school?

I like to keep my clinical practice skills sharp so I work a lot outside of school. I love spending time with my husband and two little kids. I enjoy taking my kids swimming. I like Indian music and try to make some time for it. The quarters go very busy and there is not enough sleep but I look ahead and plan the next task to keep me going.
