Applying

The Graduate School online application is now available.

Application to the Master of Prosthetics and Orthotics program is made through the Graduate School of the University of Washington. The application deadline is January 15, 2012. We do not offer rolling admissions. Application decisions will be made after January 15 as described in Selection Process.

All items are submitted online through the Graduate School of the University of Washington.

Application requirements:

  1. Letter of application (please limit to 1,000 words) addressing the following points:
    • Your reasons for pursuing a degree in prosthetics and orthotics.
    • Describe why you selected the MPO program at the University of Washington and why you believe this specific program will help you meet your educational and career goals.
  2. Prerequisite summary that includes course name and description, credit hours and grade.
  3. Plan of completion (if applicable) outlining when you will complete outstanding prerequisite courses.
  4. List of employment, volunteer work and outside activities and/or honors. Employment and volunteer work should include location, dates and responsibilities.
  5. GRE scores (test taken within the past five years); scores may be self-reported until the Grad School receives official scores) UW code: 4854
  6. Submit official transcripts from all colleges attended to the P&O Program. Please send to: University of Washington, Prosthetics-Orthotics Curriculum Program, Box 356490, Seattle, WA 98195.
  7. Three letters of recommendations. (These are also submitted online by the recommender and are initiated through the Grad School online application process.)

Underrepresented minorities may choose to submit an additional, optional personal statement of no more than two pages in length that addresses your personal history, family background, and other influences on your intellectual development. The statement should address educational, cultural, and economic opportunities and disadvantages that you have experienced, and ways those experiences have affected the development of your special interests, career plans, and future goals.

International Applicants

International applicants are required to submit material in addition to those items listed above. Detailed information about International student applications to the Graduate School of the University Washington are on the Grad School website. The Grad School also provides an FAQ list for International applicants.

International applicants, as well as immigrants to the U.S. and U.S. permanent residents, whose native language is not English, and who have not received a bachelor's degree in the U.S., Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand or the United Kingdom, must submit TOEFL and TSE scores. A minimum official TOEFL score of 580 (or a TOEFLC score of 237) and a minimum TSE score of 55 are required. Test scores must be less than two years old from the test date. No waivers are allowed.

International students must have a visa status that allows academic study at the University of Washington. International applicants include students who hold U.S. visas, such as F-1, J-1 Exchange Visitors, H1-B, any dependent visas or any other non-immigrant classifications. (You are not an International applicant if you hold a U.S. "Green Card or Immigrant" status.)
