Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT)
Program Description

The University of Washington offers a Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) Program that is a professional entry-level program designed to follow the completion of a four-year bachelor's degree. Program graduates earn a Master of Occupational Therapy degree and are eligible to take the national certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapists (NBCOT).

Program Mission

The Division of Occupational Therapy is dedicated to educating entry-level occupational therapists who will provide quality services to individuals and populations in a variety of practice settings. Our focus is on the acquisition and integration of knowledge, values, attitudes and skills that will contribute to our graduates' ability to function as competent occupational therapists, and to engage in lifelong professional development. We are committed to educational excellence, high ethical standards and respect for diversity.

Six Reasons to Attend the UW Master of Occupational Therapy Program

  1. The UW Occupational Therapy Program is ranked 9th in the nation by US News & World Report (2008).
  2. The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, in which the occupational therapy program resides, is ranked 2nd in the nation for its rehabilitation services.
  3. UW Occupational Therapy Program graduates have a first-time test-takers pass rate of 100% on the national certification examination. This represents all 71 graduates over the three-year period of 2006-2008.
  4. UW occupational therapy students take interdisciplinary classes from expert faculty in occupational therapy, physical therapy, prosthetics & orthotics, physiology, neurosciences, psychology, and medicine.
  5. Classes are small, providing the benefits of more personal attention and strong camaraderie among students. OT lecture classes have a 1:25 faculty/student ratio and labs have a 1:12 faculty/student ratio. In addition, we have an Academic Fieldwork Coordinator who works closely with all students on their Fieldwork I and II placements.
  6. Graduates of the UW Occupational Therapy Program are qualified for Educational Staff Associate (ESA) Certification in the State of Washington, so they can immediately take jobs working with children in the Washington public school system.
