Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT)
Credentials for Practice
National Certification
After completing all requirements and graduating from the program, students are eligible to sit for the National Certification Examination of Occupational Therapists administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). This exam is computer-based and is offered four times per year. Students must pass the exam to demonstrate entry-level competency to work as an occupational therapist.
Questions related to felonies are addressed when applying for the exam and a felony conviction may affect a graduate's ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination. For further information, contact:

State Licensure
The State of Washington requires that all occupational therapists hold a license to practice. Permanent licensure is issued only after the State Regulatory Board receives a passing score for the National Certification Examination. Graduates may begin work before taking the exam by using a temporary license until they are eligible for permanent licensure. Most states require licensure; however, requirements for licensure may vary from state to state.
